where do we get movement papers from,
as said in last post(forgot to say!!!) we will want to sell at some time and we will need the coloured papers.
havent a clue as how we get our hands on them, thanks for all your online support help and advice since weve taken
up this challenge of smallholding!!!!! we are having a fab time.

Defra will send you a book of movement forms. You should have phoned them and requested a herd number for goats and at the same time they can arrange to send you out movement forms.

Its best to have them even if you don't think you will need them.

what is a herd no.

after you have your holding number which identifies your country, county,parish and holding. you then need to work out what your planning to keep and apply to the animal health bods for your herd numbers this is just another set of numbers that follows your holding. its important that you get these before any animal comes onto your land. if you have 50+ birds then you need to register them. have a read of this it may help.

at the mo we got just 11 chicks, 3 pigs for table and 2 goats which we want to get preg
when they are ready.
do we need no. for all these?

YES!

You need a holding number for any farm animals. Even if you only had 1 pig you should have one.

just been up to the study and got me form with a crn no.
and a cph no. is the crn no. the holding no

is it if you are only going to breed any farm animal?
as i have now stated we got a crn and a cph do these two cover it all.
i can imagine chicks needing a herd no. ?

I don't know what a crn number is? But I live in Scotland, so it might be different. You need your cph number, plus a herd number for your goats, and a seperate herd number for the pigs. If you were to get sheep, you would need a seperate herd number for sheep too I think.

You don't need a herd number for the chicks, unless you have more than 20, and then you are supposed to register with Defra.

without a flock herd number you have big problems. your pigs can't be moved and you can't get them slaughtered. same with the goats you can't sell or slaughter them. how did you manage to report the pig movement without a herd number?. you may have problems with animal health. if i was you i would play dumb and pretend that you did not know and get hold of them. im sure when you get your holding number that your sent paperwork that tells you you need flock numbers. you need to get this sorted as soon as possible don't take you animals anywhere untill its sorted or you may be fined.

by the way what were the sellers playing at by allowing you to have them with out the right paperwork being done.

just got our pink coloured paper(report of a pig move. made
                                           under the general licence for the move. of pigs)
we have read through and no herd no.
we got our pigs on the 20/12/09
we also have a same piece of paper for the goats,we got these on 14/12/09
just noticed a flock and indivual no. on the goats paper.
will this be a permanent one or do we have to get a new one.
we have sent of the white papers as soon as the animals arrived.

just phone the animal health people as soon as possible. you really don't want to be caught without them.
