For those having problems getting pastern tags as agriflex seems to have closed down, I just received message on my phone, from Dalton Tags - they have taken over Agriflex and will supply the full range including the pastern tags

Brilliant for goats, just need to ensure that they are not too tight, and for kids and youngstock don't use the permanent pins but get an R-pin from local builder's merchant or similar. No idea if/how well the work on sheep.

But goats/sheep still need a second identifier, sheep and EID ear tag, goats just a normal tag.

Thanks Anke
So the sheep will need an EID ear tag anyway?

Yes, always at east one ear tag... goats or sheep. Sheep need EID, and unless bolussed, that is only available for ear tags. No EID pastern tags yet.

Anke, do you know where we stand with Tatooing?

Can we for example, have ears tattooed and a fetlock bracelet tag?

No, you need one ear tag as primary identifier, then can either be tattoo (you can use both ears - one for herd number other for individual number) or pastern tag as secondary identifier (or second ear tag obviously). Bolus plus black ear tag also a possibility, although I have never heard this being used in goats). As yet, no possibility without ear tag...

I use a Fearings tattoo kit that has enough numbers in a single line for the uk flock number.

I have heard that although Dalton have taken over Agriflex they are not doing pastern tags - is there anywhere else we can get them? Anyone want to go into business?
