maybe we should start a forum weight watchers?
« on: December 28, 2009, 12:18:46 am »
How about it?  Anyone want to join me and Sandy?  No need to give your start weight - just maybe some recipe or menu suggestions and what weight you have lost from a set start date - say from Wednesday morning at 9 am?

I'm slowly losing weight.. but it's linked to my very slow increase in ability to exercise and I was a stick before I knackered my spine!

I'm slowly losing weight.. but it's linked to my very slow increase in ability to exercise and I was a stick before I knackered my spine!

I know how you feel, I was 8.5 stone when I got Cancer and had to have major Surgery, which caused a lot of other problems and now I need to lose at least 4 stone! :o

So count me in, I will get some recipes together and post them, starting next week, and we will all encourage each other here with our ups and downs  ;D

I cannot do too much exercise, so Tara and I have decided that we are going to put on 70s and 80's pop music every day for half an hour and dance away to help me exercise indoors.  This may be a good idea for any others of you, vaccum to houseworking songs etc.

Once this snow and ice goes we will be walking the dogs for 40 minutes every day too, so thats our exercise plan for the new year.

Good luck everyone

I did it last year, I had a fright about my weight and limited fat's and salt, I ate well but no snacks, I ate less bread and had porridge, meat or fish and veg and salads and I also went out for regular walks, things went to pot when I hurt myself and could not go out for walks...downward from there and until the new dog, Rohan is old enough, I am stuck again for walks. I HAD to start by going shopping and getting plenty of stuff I could eat so I did not get the urge to have some high calorie food, I had NO cheese in the house and never bought crisps, as I said it did work for me but now I need a kick to get me at it again...so let us try!!

I'm up for this - I've put on a fair bit over say the last two years and could do with shedding it - or maybe some of it, better not set unacheivable goals!

My daughter also needs to lose some weight. She's not naturally active and is very motivated by food, so her weight is a problem.

Our issue is portions - we eat way, way too big portions. I lost a stone a couple of years ago just by eating 1200 calories, writing down everything I ate and by weighing food.

I'm having a mug of Bovril now because I don't have the urge to eat sweet things with it, like I woudl with tea.

I want to join in too  ;D
But unfortunately whatever I do I'm going to put on weight whether I like it or not ! Hopefully it'll all be baby and after June I'll be a shadow of my former self  ;)
I can't 'diet' as such at the mo, but can eat healthy and do a bit of excercise (more than the none I do now lol) got loads of weightwatchers recipe books and diet tips - been there, done that, got the t-shirt as they say then put it all back on  :(
I think maybe 3 threads - one with all participants - logging weight lost on a weekly basis, one with recipes and one with hints, tips and general motivational thoughts. What does everyone else think of that ? And can we PLEASE wait til after the new year - we always have a lovely big steak pie and I don't want to miss out on that !  ;) ;D ;D ;D

I'm up for that too. Have put on so much weight over the last year. Alex and I are not a good influence on each other- and he moved in last January. Once the Christmas tree has gone out, I am going to move the exercise bike into its place in the sitting room (and leave the wooden chest that normally sits there in the spare room), so it will sit there and make me feel guilty if I don't use it. 1/2 an hour a day will be good, plus taking the dogs out for more regular walks. I am also changing jobs in January, so will have to decide if I want to join the gym. I'll be working at the new headquarters from January 11th, where there is a huge gym, which will cost £26 a month to join.

I'd like to request not starting til into January too- will try and give up alcohol for a while too.

Well, I usualy start off by looking in mags for diet idears, I need a meal plan otherwise I  leave out meals and then eat loads, I find a danger point is if you go on a day out, most food that you buy is very high in calories so I suppose to find alternative things to beat the hunger.....ummmmm ??? ??? Beth, I too should move the excersice bike into the dog room or the lounge. SOme years ago when I was slim, I needed to build up my staminan and did regular sessions on the excersice bike with my music turned up loads, I loved it and would push myself until the track had ended, so, I may drag it back in!!

I tend to eat whatever I want and pay no heed to wether it is high in calories or not.  I am maybe a bit over weight ....but I walk 5 miles every day to feed the horses , and do plenty of other outside work as and when weather allows . So I don't think fitness is a problem . My back can  play havoc with me , and over the last 3 weeks I have had to do the 5 mile walk with a torn ligament in my knee...not much fun that !!! It is gradually getting better now , falling a*se over t*t 3 or 4 times on the ice didn't help matters much , but managed to keep going .
As I said I just eat what I want but I must start to watch what I eat and eat less stodge . I eat very healthy through the summer , mainly salad from the veggie plot , so 6 months or so of healthy eating is better than none I suppose ?  So it isn't dieting I need to do , but eat a more healthy diet !! does that make any sense ?

cheers

Russ

Rusty your are a tough *ugger!!!I agree, you can eat a fair bit if you do excercise, thats my problem although I get a bit more in this house than I would in others as I am always up and down stairs!!!! I also find when I am walking I am not thinking about food!!! I did not have a car for a while when we moved, I have spoken about this before and I loved the little trot to the supermarket and back on the Bus if I had too much to carry, there is also a nice walk weather permitting, through the woods, you end up at Focus and Morrisons, I may start doing that when the pup is older!!!

Oh I up for this too, I need to loose around 3 to 4 stone which wont bring me to my ideal weight but I like to have a little bit of "padding"  ;), since leaving the Army I swore I would never do another days exercise however ones "padding" is certainly becoming a little too much for my liking.

OK, seems a lot of us want to do it but the consensus is to start in the New Year.  So how about Monday 4th January we all weigh ourselves and make a commitment to try to lose the first half stone?  I'll create a chart and post it here that you can use if you want to. And we'll take it a half stone at a time.......................
