A Chinese couple have allegedly sold their child to a trafficker for the equivalent of £250 to fund the purchase of a mobile phone. The phone model purchased has not been identified

The good news is that the trafficker was later arrested trying to sell the child for £1,000.

A 21-year-old man and his 19-year-old girlfriend sold their illegitimate son for 2,500 yuan ($366) and bought a flashy mobile phone with that amount in Chongqing municipality.

The one-month-old infant was last week rescued from a trafficker who was about to sell off the baby for 10,000 yuan.

Li, the father, a migrant worker, said his girlfriend Xin gave birth recently, but they didn't have money to take care of the baby, which is why they decided to sell him off.

"When I got 2,500 yuan for the baby, I thought I might as well buy the phone I always wanted," Li said.

Li and Xin have been detained.

Only joking, I love mine dearly and now I'm retired they say it's 'pay back time' - great kids.  I can almost understand that couple though, if they couldn't afford to look after the baby they maybe thought they were doing the right thing for him.  And they may not be the brightest buttons on the shirt

My best friend lives in Canada, when her Christmas card arrived a week or so ago she had missed off the name of her son but had put his big sisters name on the rd. I telephoned her to ask if she had sold Aidan and she was at a loss as to why she had forgotton the wee chap. Turns out she hasn't put his name on most of the cards she sent - spoke with her yesterday her husband is most upset at the mistake. Luckily Alison just laughs at her stupidity.

When Harry was a baby we went to the Chatsworth Country Fair.  I bumped into a friend at the clay pigeon shooting and as we got gossiping we sauntered off elsewhere.  10 minutes later "Oh F**k Harry!"  He was still there happily watching the clays!

My friend, Sue, was getting ready to go for the weekly shop to Tesco.  She got wee Steph, one month old,  ready in her car seat, sorted out the bags, checked she had money and her list, then set off down the A96 in the car.  Half way round, she met a friend who asked how the baby was and how lovely for her to have neighbours to look after her while she went shopping.  Sue screamed, jumped in the car, flew the twenty minutes home to find Steph peacefully sleeping in her car seat just where she left her - on the kitchen table!  This is absolutely true I assure you.  I doubt if it was the first time a new Mum had done something like that, nor the last!

My parents lost me in Venice once. When they returned I was still in the same place half an hour later - outside a shoe shop looking at the display in the window. I was about 7 - what does that tell about me? Ask my OH 
But maybe that's why I'll never lost one of my children, I'm a real mother hen  My parents thought I hadn't even noticed that they had disappeared but I do remember and I still get the goosebumps...
