Dexter rug!

You may remember that under my post entitled “Dexter dead weight?” I mentioned that we had got the hide back from the abattoir and salted it and sent it off for tanning.  It arrived back from the tannery this morning and we are delighted with it (photo attached).  At £200 all in it isn’t exactly a cheap rug but it is so nice to have one of our own animals decorating the sitting room and have had lots of friends say that they would like one next time we send a steer off.

Nice. Where did you get it done? Tanned I mean.

It was Holmes Halls (in Hull) that did the first stage and Pittards that did the second stage (Yeovil).

Looks great, and won't show the dirt! And actually, although £200 isn't cheap, it's quite reasonable in comparison to what it costs to get a sheepskin cured.
But wouldn't a longhorn, or shorthorn look amazing with their muted colouring.

landroverroy, my husband want a belted galloway skin but I am rather looking forward to our Dun steer's departure.
