John is in Central Scotland not far from me.  He doesn't post often, but I spoke to him this evening about his chicks,  obviously they need to be a wee bit older before being sold - maybe 3 to 4 weeks?  I'm no expert, just guessing.  Rosemary, any thoughts on this? .  He has just got carried away with the new incubator he bought! ;)

hi all
i dont mind keeping these till POL but obviously the price will change, there is no hurry to rehome the birds? i didnt get carried away with the new incubator i just got fed up paying over the odds at market, and thought by doing this and by building up a good reputation for doing so i could help people like myself who get ripped of when starting, obviously the cost to start this is expensive but in the long run should cover itself, also i wouldn't mind if someone wanted to hatch chicken eggs of there own but dont or cant afford to buy incubator i could incubate for them for a small fee to cover cost? this also lets them choose the type of birds they really want from the start at a fraction of the cost and knowing the birds as their own from young?
people do buy chicks at this age but i would add that you need to have heat lamp for them for the first month or so depending on how cold the weather is.
as im new to this i would welcome any advice from a seasoned incubator user as i dont profess to know everything, but im getting there.....:)

If you have a heat lamp and are close enough to pick them up in a few hours, they will be fine to travel. We buy 2-3 day old Hubbards and bring them an hour or so in the car before putting them under a light.

Like you QWOLF, I have an incubator and think it is brill too I have hatched out Runner ducks, Aylesburys, Khaki Campbells, Light sussex hens and this years Christmas turkeys, at the moment I have 12 Khaki campbell eggs due to hatch in about 10 days, I did not expect so many to be fertile but if all hatch will be looking for homes for some of them.

I think that's why I've never bought an incubator before.  Where do you find homes for all these birds?  I wouldn't have a clue where to start.

Hey, Jock, you're improving - no shouting!  (Capitals) Where did you hear about not putting duck eggs in after chicken ones?  I can't see the logic in that if they are disinfected properly. ???

Hi annie

a chap i met at lanark last month,as i could have bought 24 khaki campbell eggs for a fiver well sorry they went for a fiver i would have had to go 6, the chap i was next to asked what i was thinking of and i explained... he told me that a gas or something comes out of the egg that makes it only usable for ducks but you have to really clean the incubator anyway but he said that in the case of ducks the cleaning isnt required he seemed to know what he was on about nice guy?
