i thought pitbulls were banned in the uk? there seem to be lots of pitbull types my area on facebook that have been lost/found etc, that are definitely more beefy than the average staffy but presumed the real breeding would be masked or passed off as staffies.

but i was suprised today when meeting a 7 wk(!!) old pup at the beach today, to be openly told he was a pitbull cross.
is it not illegal nowadays to breed them?
i was quite shocked.

I believe them to be on the 'banned' dogs list in the uk. Also thought it illegal to breed, sell, etc.

I think they look carefully at the 'appearance' of the dog to decide if it is a pitbull and not on 'breeding'.

I don't see many that look like pitbulls .... not where I live.

Think I'd be a bit shocked too.

We are near aberdeen. lots of "staffies" and some much bigger types than cant be purebreds. there were alot of pitbulls where we lived in australia so i recognise the type too, they are quite different from the staffys really.

Look up American Staffordshire  ;)
I don't think the Pitbull rule was very well patrolled. That 'type' has always been around and not something I want to delve into too much as it is more than a bag of worms  :innocent:

They are bred and sold just as openly as any other breed but the type of people who have these and are in the know tend to refer to them as American Staffordshires  ::)

There are plenty of these 'types' in the homes of innocent people totally unaware of the regulations that came out in the late 80s. Technically there shouldnt be any in existence as they are not to be imported and the ones already here had to be neutered by 1990.

The DDA is a really rubbish ill thought out act.  It blames the breed rather than the deed.  Dangerous dogs come in all shapes and sizes and almost always created by their stupid owners.  Very few puppies are born evil.

There are a great many good natured Staffordshire Bull terriers on both sides of the Atlantic.

They are on the DDA death list.

Ridiculous idea. . . . its basically a canine version of racism.

Some of the nicest, most well balance dogs I've been around have been pits of pit crosses.
