Where to find a small holding?
« on: July 06, 2014, 11:11:42 pm »
Looking at getting a few acres of land in West Sussex, but not sure where to start? Was hoping to rent rather than buy, where does one look for such a thing?

All sorts of places. Estate agents, the internet, local agri merchants, word of mouth.

Landshare might be worth a try.

Hi Formatted

Good one  Where do you find treasure?

We spent years looking for a smallholding, my favourite website was  "rural scene".

We found our smallholding by .......... complete accident, good fortune, what ever you want to call it.

Having looked everywhere, been to auctions; we gave up and were going to follow the "field to farm" approach.

Found a field that looked good but needed somewhere to live nearby, we found a "bargin bucket" property that no one wanted, tatty old property that needed a lot of work but (not in the paperwork) it came with over two acres of overgrown ground. It  had been a smallholding in the past.

There is no answer to your question except go out and search, see what you can find.

Thanks for the help and pointing in the right direction. I'm currently away from the area I'm looking but will pop into the local agriculture merchant and ask, also heard that the local manager of a pet shop has some land to rent. There is also a landshare scheme but that is a little to far out for me!
