Limping runner duck
« on: April 01, 2014, 11:51:32 pm »
I have a poorly duck. I found her one day flapping around unable to walk properly so put her in a run on own. She seemed to improve but then the goose attacked her and drake I think is treading her so now she has a bald back and can't stand very well.

She seems happy as eating drinking aNd sun bathing. The drake is besotted with her so I have let him stay with her but will she ever recover? I will shut drake out if this is likely to help but the love each other and I feel really mean.

Defo separate and give her a chance to recover fully... A cpl of weeks should do the job!

yes, I agree - a boy's attention won't do her any favours! Can even be the cause of her limping - is she the only girl?? Then I would consider getting a few more... :&>

Yes remove drake .. he could be the cause of  the limping... and as previous message says can cause life threatening damage.    1 drake to at least 3 ducks should give them a break.

Don't wrestle with pigs, they will love it and you will just get all muddy.

Let go of who you are and become who you are meant to be.

Sometimes you find a drake or cockerel will have a 'favourite' and so you need more females to dilute the attentions.  I find that their attentions usually start to calm down a bit later into summer, so around July they aren't quite so brutally affectionate  :D

Just for the record, limping is sometimes a sign that they need wormed - Flubanvet in their food usually makes that right in a few days.  Sounds like this is the drake though.

Hope she's well  :fc:
