Brahma Hens

Yesterday I purchased, rather indulgently, a Brahma hen. I have named her Cleopatra and she is an absolute beauty! I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of these? I have a mixture of hybrid and ex enriched welfare hens also.

I have a Lavender Brahma in a mixed flock, she is a little nervous of humans but holds her own in the flock. She also lays lovely light green eggs, they are quite small but great colour for the basket!

OOOOhhh a lavendar Brahma sounds beautiful!! I brought her home with a couple of light sussex hens which I bought for my landlady as a birthday present. They are separated at the moment from the rest obviously, but she seemed to be bullying them a little bit, although they settled nicely. I am looking forward to seeing her free ranging. She was fine with me handling her to start with but was a little pecky as the day went on. I will have as much contact with her as possible so that she is easy to handle.

Brahmas are generally docile birds and tend to be the ones that are bullied...I am afraid I am a little addicted to brahmas and breed them in several colours, the cockerels are more friendly and docile than the hens and would never be without them.  I have a Cleopatra...she's my beautiful white brahma
We keep brahmas in gold, dark, lemon pyle, blue partridge, blue buff columbian, buff columbian , blue, splashes, blacks and my whites...........
Also salmon faverolles and can now offer high quality poultry saddles for your girls

Pics please, I'm going to get my chicken books out, feeling nosey  :D

Love the name, very stately.  We have female geese called Ezmarelda and Bathsheba.

No stately name for my poor Lavender Brahma, she got labelled with the name Penguin because when she hatched she looked just like one, pale lemon front and face surrounded by pale grey - sooo cute! I would love some other colours at some point as they are great birds.
