Now that the sun is finally here  :sunshine: and it's dried up a bit, the midges seem to be out in force, which is driving my poor girls a bit batty. Is there a fly spray I can use (on a daily basis potentially) to spray on my girls' tums and faces? I'm thinking along the lines of the herbal sorts I used to use on my horse?

Hi! I know what you mean about the flies - they're a real nuisance. I use a spray called ' Blowfly Repel' I think it's made by Barrier. My girls hate anything that 'sprays' so I sometimes spray it on the brush I use when brushing them or on my hand!

crovect or spot on would give you several months protection from one dose.  Your vet may well keep an open bottle to dose small flocks.  If you want something daily you could also try some of the cold tea & citronella based recipes.  or marmite sandwiches....

Dynamite herbal spray seems to be effective if you use it frequently, we use it on the show sheep as I react to Crovect etc so don't like handling sheep that have chemical sprays on them.   It is also a fairly cheap option as it is around £8  a bottle for a concentrate that you dilute with water and then spray on, so the bottle lasts a long time.  I just give the sheep a quick spray while they are eating and they soon get used to it. I have bought it on ebay.

Ah, thanks. It's a herbal/daily thing I was after really, as I don't really like using chemicals if I can help it. I do have some Crovect but I only use it in an 'emergency' (lice/fly strike etc).

It's been a gorgeous day here today, hoping the weather stays dry for when lambing commences soon! I never managed to get hold of a scanner so it's going to be a bit of a surprise - the two that I think are due around the 6th April are looking extremely rotund so I'm assuming they are carrying multiples. One looks marginally pregnant and the other (who never got marked with the raddle) doesn't look preggers at all. We shall see...

No---I am meant to look at it in April---there is a farm trial being planned and I might join?
