Met some donut the other day who told me they they had a 'pure, pedigree cockerpoo'. . . . . . . I just smiled.

Well, you learn something new everyday . . . . . . i'd always imagined that my lot would get me a visit from the RSPCA (unfounded) rather than a rosette if I tried to show them lol.

One is actually KC reg. . . . . ironically. The whippet. Although I think he doesn't fit the breed standard  :D

It's been a very interesting discussion. Hey, I might even get into showing. . . . . it's got to be easier to breed a dog to stand well and look good. . . . . than to go under the earth and do battle, or run it's legs off in the cold and rain for 12 hours.

Yer, sorry about that, I just happened to stumble across this thread, nothing was aimed at yourself

You're welcome, enjoyed the chat!  Dogs champing at the bit now so we're off to the woods to find some terriers to chase down some holes  :roflanim:

 :roflanim: Oh Doganjo!

Well bred 'working' labs fetch those 'silly' prices. That is the norm .... and I mean pups not trained dogs so it's not just show/ designer dogs.

Thanks Ideation .... you're obviously passionate about your dogs. Interesting to read about terriers because I know very little about them.

Aye, i'm off out into the sun with the pack now as well  :sunshine:

Apart from one terrier, who is in sick bay  :innocent:

inthehills - I am certainly that. I love my dogs, and I love working them. And I could wax lyrical about terriers all day. I think they are probably the most dedicated, most amazing creatures when seen in all their working glory.

What other kind of dog, would go down into the darkness, many feet below the ground, where it can't see a thing, and do battle with a much bigger, stronger opponent, on it's home turf. And absolutely live for doing it?

They are little gladiators and some one once told me the wise words -

Work them hard, treat them like heroes.

I have read the direction of this post with interest.  As I said earlier I have Irish Terriers - they originated in Ireland as a general farm dog - ratter, guard, companion.  According to this origins then I think that my Irish are fit for function.  We live on a smalllding and they love looking for rats in the compost heaps - dig out holes, hunt silently, but have never caught anything, they are great guard dogs but very friendly and love nothing better than cuddling up on my lap or next to me on the sofa.  I do show mine a bit dont take it very sreriously and I prefer to go to Crufts on Discover Dogs stand so other people can admire my dogs and I can talk to people about them.  This is a day out the dogs love too as they are so well socialised and enjoy all the fuss - especially Willow.
