Was anyone else at Crufts?
« on: March 11, 2014, 11:35:14 am »
I went with two friends but we had a bit of a false start.  All set to put my dogs and bags in my car - turned the key and the lights came on and nothing else.  Phoned  local garage, who said it was an electrical fault and they couldn't fix it.  I'd have to phone the specialists in Stirling!

Fortunately one of my friends came in a Galaxy, so we contacted her insurers and put me on to drive it - very helpful FordInsure!  Next job was to ask my son in law to pick up Missy, and my cousin to pick up Freckles.

Then four dogs and the three of us plus canvas crates and rucksacks piled in and set off, with only an hour and a half delay!  Lovely drive down and I fell in love with the Galaxy!

One of my friends, Bev, won her class with her young German Wirehair, the other, Eileen, won Puppy dog with Carson (Gordon Setter), then I won Veteran dog and Good citizen dog with Allez, and Good citizen Bitch with Belle.  A good run finished with Carson challenging the other puppy class winners and won Best Puppy Dog - so we had to wait for the adult judging to finish for him to challenge the bitch puppy.  Got away at 6.20pm instead of 4pm.  Thank goodness for  the shuttle buses to the car park!  We were exhausted - and had 6 hours journey home, mostly me driving as Eileen can't drive in the dark - I power napped the first hour..  But a  very smooth run home, with great company - and the 8 very pretty red rosettes helped!

Edited to correct typos(can't abide them) - must have been half asleep when I posted this  :innocent:

For all the bad start it sounds as if you enjoyed yourselves. Great results for all the dogs makes driving all that way worth it.  I have thought of going a few times but the crowds would freak me out. We always watch it on the telly. Not the same I know but even our dogs seem to like it.

We took our two Irish Terriers to Crufts on Saturday and we were on the Discover Dogs stand in the afternoon.  Had an enjoyable day - wasnt as busy as previous years so was more relaxing.  Lots of admirers of my girls who thoroughly enjoyed all the fuss.

I was there Friday. Thoroughly enjoyed the day as usual.  Lots of stands and lots of BORDER TERRIERS!!!
Also fell in love with the Basset Fauve de Bretagne, Italian Spinone, griffon bruxellois, welsh terriers and the Wire haired hungarian vizlas!!

Looks like we will be getting a third Border terrier though

Poodle - now just don't go there  ::)  They were originally gundogs, some still are, and the fluff round the joints and heart/lungs there for good reason!  :innocent:

My daughter gasped, "Was that really a gundog, once?"  ;D

She had a good giggle at the Hound Group with the biggies and the littlies.

oh you've made me all nostalgic - I used to have a lovely Irish Terrier
Our holding has Anglo Nubian and British Toggenburg goats, Gotland sheep, Franconian Geese, Blue Swedish ducks, a whole load of mongrel hens and two semi-feral children.

The French certainly know the Poodle as a duck dog and used the smaller Poodles to sniff out truffles

:roflanim: :roflanim: :roflanim:  That must have been the one year I missed!  I've had at least one qualified dog every year since 1979.
