Hello from South Lanarkshire
« on: April 02, 2008, 11:37:46 am »
Hi
We have a small holding in South Lanarkshire which currently has too much mud and too many animals.  Here is a quick summary of how we got into this position.

In spring 2006, we were looking for a nice old house in the country to do up, with enough land for a dog and a few hens – perhaps even a sheep. By July 2006, we found ourselves living in a modern house with 10 acres of damp land..

..today we have three Tamworth pigs and eight tamworth cross piglets, a Large Black boar, two Dexter cows with their calves, two pygmy goats, eight sheep Tow lambs(and counting), four ducks, about twenty seven chickens and of course our three darling children.

We are loving every minute....well almost every minute.

Hi and welcome from us here in Normandy!

You sound so much like us! We started so small, just over 2 acres and all green, with a beautiful fruit orchard.  Now 4 years later we are bursting at the seams and on the move to a larger property. We don't have a blade of grass and the mud is like sludge in which I got stuck trying to rescue a bucket from Vannesa Tamworth last evening.  It took John all his strenght to pull out my wellies - he  was doubled over telling me to put my leg over the fence. HOW COULD I ? My other boot was stuck in at a 45 degree angle and I was almost falling over. Not for the fainthearted I can tell you!

Anyway, looking forward to reading all about you and your family.

I must ask you - what colours do you get from your Tammy/Large Black cross? Vanessa has just had her third crossed litter with Delboy our Saddleback, and she always had black/black and white. Have you had any resembling the 'elephant babies'. I just love the pics I have seen of them. I would be so tempted to have some, but alas none are available to us in France.

Hi

I am also situated in south lanarkshire strathaven. I have about 9 acres but have only some chickens on the land at present. Do you sell any of your fertilised duck eggs as I am hoping to get some ducks next as I have a stream running through the land. Also considering pigs

Very welcome to the forum

Hi Pauline

Welcome. Its so addictive isn't it?  You start off with something small, gain confidence and experience then look for a new challenge or skill to learn.

Looking forward to hearing your news.
