Young cockerel
« on: March 01, 2014, 08:40:36 pm »
Hello..
I have an established mixed flock of marans and welsummers who share a large pen and unlimited free range. I also have a secondary pen with 5 marans pullets and a young cockerel which are currently 24 weeks old.
What would be the best way to introduce them so there all together,I have done this many times previously over the years with pullets but never with a young cockerel..
Am i to expect the same spats  as when pullets go In or will this be more severewith a young male???
He's roughly the same size as the older birds are now..

I'd welcome your thoughts..
Thanks

Are there cockerels in the main flock? To be honest we've never had a problem even if there are. As long as they have plenty of space they seem to sort it out. The junior boys usually just deffer and run away.

No there are no other males he's the only one...

Wasn't sure if I needed to do anything different than what  I do with new pullets..
