Got myself into a bit of a pickle....
« on: February 10, 2014, 11:53:54 am »
I have recently taken on a reasonable sized bit of land. The farm used to be much larger and went it was sold off they split it all up. The buildings is less than 400m from my fields. Both the farm buildings and the paddocks either side are in a total mess! So I found who owns it and went to see them.

I asked about the barn they said they had interest in it and they want a lot of money, Fair enough I said. I asked about the paddocks, he said they were let out (clearly not been used for 2 years minimum)  so Fair enough I said again.

The farm has two silage clamps, one they have interest in for someone who is doing logs and the other is unspoken for, we are planning to get a sheep poly tunnel and wanted some concrete to put it on. They said they will work out a price and call me back, I've just got the call saying them want £800 for sod all space! But they now have someone who wants this other clamp so I would have to squeeze into a grassed corner. He also asked if I could afford that and I said yes but Its whether or not we want to spend that much so I would talk to the OH.

Well I have spoken to my landlord and they said I can put something up on the concrete area in front of my field until they get round to putting up a new shed which I can use once built for free again.

How do I tell the owner of the sheds I don't want his grassed corner? I am also relying on the owner letting my landlord connect to there water to put a new water metre in!

Do I say I don't want my sheep in the middle of a mini industrial units with lorries and vans ining and outing all the time!
Do I say I cant afford it?
Do I say I want something closer to my fields?
Or do I sit on it until The water is sorted then say no!

Any other suggestions?

Sit on it till you have facts and action from your landlord!  No need to give explanation to farm either - just say, don't want it now.
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age

Do what you would like to be done to you if the situation were swapped round.
If you cant beat 'em then at least bugger 'em about a bit.

Thanks all  I will wait for the time being and it will be a thank you very much for your time but its not what we are after.

Good point doganjo, I don't actually need to tell them why!

And Q I would want to know sooner rather than later but I still think Its best wait!

Yep, wait, but don't feel bad - it doesn't exactly sound like he was bending over backwards to help you. If you do want to give a reason, it sounds like the solution you now have is just more convenient and cheaper so fine to tell him that - then he's got some feedback too.

We always work on 'less is more'.  They don't ask you don't offer, they do ask 'your non commital'.  Hope it works out.  :)

Ok, so they rang to ask about something else and I came clean.

I said thank you very much but its more than we are willing to pay as well as a metre and getting PP.

I don't think they can stop us having access to the water as when my landlord bought the field they had water and its only in the last year that it was cut off due to a split pipe under the concrete.

Thanks all
