Tuesday night some houses by us evacuated, Wednesday lots of people evacuated, we lost 1/3 of the roof & the chimney, our local leisure centre & a school are shelters for the evacuees, approx. 300 homes without power, some children's parents were unable to pick their children up yesterday so a number of them stayed the night at school with the other families, the road is closed both ways from our place took over an hour to get to the school 1 1/2 miles. Not really eased here, mind you I'm not sure if I'm awake due to wind, worry or the fact that I'm so uncomfortable trying to sleep in a strange place in a sleeping bag. (we are very grateful for the support we are receiving) wouldn't be British if we didn't moan.
Our chickens are in the hands of the gods, now I wish I'd fitted auto doors to the pens.
We see this kind of thing on tv we don't experience it, the good thing is everyone is getting to know their neighbours, I've never seen so many tears in my entire life, In a few days people are going to need to find somewhere to live, we certainly hadn't budgeted for renting somewhere, will our insurance cover us ?
I'm sure rents will go up round here tomorrow.

Good luck to ye all, spare a thought for your neighbours please.

Don't wrestle with pigs, they will love it and you will just get all muddy.

Let go of who you are and become who you are meant to be.

Yes your insurance should  cover you.
I know because my grandparents are going through the same thing have been since beginning of December .

 to AndynJ - puts it all into perspective, been bad here and we've had to put in an insurance claim for our dining room but trivial really compared to what others are having to contend with.

:fc: you get things sorted Andyjn.

I think the SW is getting the worst of this weather (yesterday wasn't bad here - but that may be 'cos I'm sheltered from the west).

The bad news is another storm is forecast coming in late on Friday/ Saturday am so don't unbatten anything yet; perhaps more westerly so should be less damaging on the south coast.

Just awful.  Really feel for all of you affected so badly by this weather.  Yes, its a bit muddy here and the Avon is about to breach but compared to the scenes on the News we are incredibly lucky.
I think I speak for so many fellow smallholders when i say we feel so helpless, i wish we could do more. We've donated towards the forage aid campaign but it seems such a small gesture as people lose their homes, livestock and livelihoods  :(

80 mph winds due this weekend so going to stay indoors and hope everything stays put. we've sprung a leak down past the flashing on the chimney, mainly because the wind is always from that direction.
Nothing compared to some   to you all stay safe. be glad when this is all over.
