sweet potatoes in Scotland

did anyone grow them here successfully? If yes, which method did you use and where did you grow them (greenhouse, bags,outdoors)?  :&>

I've been told that the Midlands are too far north to grow them so I would be interested to know as well.

me too-I can no longer eat regular spuds so rely on sweet potatoes :)

I recall the Beechgrove Garden grew them a couple of years ago (or tried anyway).
In a polly tunnel I think it was.

I'd try it in a pt or greenhouse or on top of a 'hot bed'. 
It would be worth a go.

I actually grew some last year. I just grew them outdoors- didn't plan it at all, they were just reduced to 50p in homebase in May so I decided to give them a try.


They did fine, I got really lucky- but we had a really good summer last year. I don't think they would do well in a normal year, and dreadfully in a bad year (like 2012).

But we deserve a good summer after this winter so it might be worth a go.  ;D ;D
