XP ENDS SOON
« on: January 26, 2014, 05:04:17 pm »
Microsoft’s deadline is looming large, with no further security or technical updates or bug fixes for Windows XP after 8th April. Desktops and laptops running on the operating system may become vulnerable to security threats, including those from hackers and viruses.

Well no updates means no security updates , and as most antivirus programs run in conjunction with microsoft security updates , there could be a few problems.  :innocent:

I just dont belive there is anything to worry about - all the virus creaters will have turned their attention to Windows 7 and 8 years ago.
If anything the virus creaters 'switched off' creating problems for XP long before Microsoft switch off support for it they have to keep up too.
If you cant beat 'em then at least bugger 'em about a bit.

Hope you're right, Q. I still have XP on one computer, as does my OH.

I don't know how many problems there will be but I for one am forced to find a new system  As my Danish bank will not allow me to log-in after that date.

If you believe that hackers have taken their eye off Win XP just because Microsoft are to withdrawl support you are sadly misguided.  Software vulnerabilities including those in operating systems will continue to be targeted as long as people continue to use them.  Does a burglar choose the most secure house on the street or does he walk into the house that leaves it's doors open.  It's just the same with computers they search for easy targets, those that have not patched the vulnerabilities.  Upgrade your systems or run the risk of someone attacking your computer.

My laptop still runs XP and there is no way I can afford a new one so if I disappear one day I've either had an accident on the holding or been overwhelmed by the forces of hacking darkness..

Poor old thing limps along with very little spare memory due to oversize updates as it is - not unlike its owner actually ;)
