Got my first pigs
« on: March 29, 2008, 09:01:57 am »
I was so excited yesterday - I got my two boys! They seemed to settle well and did not appear distressed at leaving their mum. They ate well and skipped about wagging their tails. I had to go out with a works party last night and worried all the time that they would not go into their ark. I came home and they were nicely tucked up. I kept waking in the night thinking if they were OK. I got up at 7am to feed them and they did not want tp come out. I've been out again at 8.30 and they are sleeping! I think they are happy ;D Just been out again at 9.30 and there out and now eating their breakfast - so far so good :pig:

I know how you feel. We've just picked up our three Tamworths for this year and even though we done it before, I still get excited. They fell asleep on the way here, although it's only about 40 minutes (Dan was driving very carefully) but now they are exploring their boundaries and rooting already. They have wee dirty faces! I also hope they go to bed tonight - they should be exhausted. The sheep don't know WHAT to make of these new arrivals!

You will have great fun now! They are such timewasters though, you will have to be very firm with yourself!

Mine are crosses. Mum was a GOSxTamworth, Dad is a Middle White. Lovely pigs though I'm not sure how big they will get. I am thinking of having Tamworths next year! ;D

Sounds great. I was a bit anxious about Tammies but now have 2 and they are so good, I was under the impression they were great escape artisits, however to date this is not the case.

Good luck

I have some pics but I don't know how to get them onto the site :-[ I understand why people say that they are great time wasters. My husband disappearred for quite sometime yesterday, when he came back I asked where he had been and he said he had been playing with the pigs (he's 58). Today I keep popping out to see them between cooking the Sunday lunch ;D :pig:

Ours didn't surface until 12 noon today, little stay-a-beds. They looked out when I put their feed out (so I knew they were alive!) but decided to stay in bed a little longer! Some friends came to visit and brought them some very ripe pears, so they got one each (don't want to upset their tummies). They're getting braver already - soon I'll be able to bribe them with apple slices and they will be hand tame. They are so curious and a combination of brave and scared. Time wasters!

I am so jealous. Now we are eating my pigs ( very delicious) I have a void were they were. Not just a physical void, but also time and activity wise. The pigs patch is not coming back to life as the heavy rains have made it worse than ever. I have promised not to get any more untill I have gone on holiday with my family in late august. I am having withdrawl problems.  I think I might have to squeeze in a couple of weaners to finish just before we go away. two little piggies of any variety, just to keep my game up to speed.
Oh dear, I've got the pig bug.
