I heard today that a local farm (Carmarthenshire) has had a working collie stolen from the farm and it seems this isn't the first one in the area.   

It is likely that the farm has been targeted and watched prior to the theft to select a time when the farm will be empty.

Keep your eyes out for strangers  and any collies for sale through suspect sources.

A few years ago my neghbour's collie was stolen and returned a week later, bathed, groomed and well fed.  He suspected one of the workmen at a nearby house had "borrowed" him to sire a litter from his own bitch, but couldn't prove anything.

Unfortunately this is becoming more common, the prices of working collies has risen dramatically in recent years. They may not even try to sell it secretly, as there are now numerous sheepdog sales across the UK, even if the dog was micro chipped, someone has to read it, and then have access to a list of stolen dogs, it would be very easy to sell it at a sale with no questions asked.
