Edinburgh Tattoo - horrified!
« on: January 16, 2014, 10:59:19 am »
My bridesmaid from almost 50 years back lives in Wales so I rarely see her. She has decided to take her granddaughter up here for a visit and we planned to go to the tattoo as I've never been.  Seen it plenty times on TV and loved it.

However she has just told me the price and I am having second thoughts - £356 for the three of us   Apparently there is also a hefty charge for using a credit card - holy moley - don't think I'll be going somehow!

Not surprised you are horrified I have to admit when I read your post I thought " she must have got it wrong"
So I went online to look for myself and they varied from £93.50 to £152.50 for the date I picked.
How can they possibly justify charging all that money.

Bloody hell - I haven't been to the Tattoo since I was about seven.

I suppose the prices are much the same as any arena concert - we paid £75 a ticket to see Rod Stewart  :)

That's a hugh amount  :o I have just been on the site and there is tickets from £27 each but I would imagine they are for the worst seats possible  :-\

Roma has suggested we take a bus tour round the city instead, and see if we can find a pipe band playing - I have friend who is a member of the World Champion Group 2 Pipe Band so I've asked for her help.

That is terrible,

I don't have a family but it seems if you do you are priced out of so much these days. All that money plus food/transport etc. It's a blooming shambles

I think it was maybe a rip off site Roma found - the official site is much much cheaper but I can't book because my security settings have blocked Java - need to investigate or get Roma to book

I think that was a rogue site my pal found, she doesn't do much online purchasing, and I have found very much cheaper seats, but they are very high up - no doubt a good view, and sound isn't a problem, but heights and open scaffolding are not my thing so I'm considering the options. Perhaps lower down seats are the reason for the higher price. Right now it's dog walking time!

I've never been either just seen it on TV each year and always thought it would be nice to go one day.. that will be one day AFTER winning the lottery, except that I stopped doing the lottery when they doubled the price from £1  to  £2 for a lucky dip ::)

That said I had a wee TOISA that matured and tho most went in a new ISA I took a bit out and bought some premium bonds which I've never had before either so maybe I'll get a windfall from that one day..

I reckon if you just want to hear the bands then visit one of the summer shows or Highland Games where there will be bands competing, or go to the Piping Centre in Glasgow..  You'd afford a decent lunch out with the difference in fees!

The reason for going was to take Roma's granddaughter, but we are all into Pipe bands too - my Dad was a Pipe and Drum Major in  the Cameronians.  The World Pipe Band Championships are on that same weekend at Glasgow Green so I've let her know.

That is dreadful!  We watched a repeat of 2013's on television over Christmas, and were just saying how we would love to take the boys when they are a bit bigger.  OH went when he was young, someone whose farm he was working on every weekend took him for a treat, and he said it was amazing, but I think our boys will have to content themselves with the TV version.

ANy event of this kind seems wildly expensive now (or is it just me getting more Scrooge-like?)  We live within fairly easy reach of Malvern, where the theatre has a lot of pre- and post-London plays.  The prices are quite reasonable but the London prices would be three or four times the cost.

We have decided to go to the Pipe Band World Championships at Glasgow Green on the same weekend instead, and to take a city tour of Edinburgh on the other day.
