High Winds and Rain in Cornwall
« on: December 23, 2013, 01:04:21 pm »
What a morning we have just spent two hours rehousing the ducks as their home has been destroyed by the strong wind it had been a 6 x 4 shed fixed to a heavy base it is now kindling wood spread over the pasture. The ducks are now living in the horse trailer for the time being and they love their new water logged enclosure.

:(  Yep - that photo could have been taken at mine!

I also have rain coming through the brickwork of my utility room in the house.  i could really do without the drama...

It is the same with us just south of Dartmoor. New streams appearing all over the garden, some if which I am sure are water coming out of mole tunnels. This time last year the ground around us was so saturated the water table rose above the damp proof course and we had water rising up through the floor!

Sad sight, all that work destroyed in a split second , not much better in mid Wales, wind gusting over 90 mph and torrential rain, our normal little stream has risen by a meter in the last  hour, the ground can't take any more water now.

Yikes - just had a large shed erected on Monday.  Hope it lasts.  We dug in concreted posts around each of the sides so hopefully it can't budge.  Hope the roof stays on though.

We had to go out and about this morning to get some postcrete for a gate job that has to be finished tomorrow (at least we are being paid for it!) - in the 16 mile trip 2 roads were shut due to fallen trees and there were flooded sections of quite a few lanes.

Luckily we were in our trusty Landy  :excited:

It would be this afternoon that I promised to drive a friend on a 30 mile round trip to hospital ::) .  Lots of trees down, flood water and the artics had pulled over on the A35 due to high winds.  Made it there and back :relief: :relief: .  I hope it blows itself out before tomorrow.  Stay safe all :fc: .

Its horrendous here in Northumberland, started off with heavy snow this morning then turned to rain and gale force winds.
The river has burst its banks yet again so the paddock is under water and we have a river runing through the yard  :(
brought all of the animals in so at least they are dry and comfy for the night
More heavy rain forcast

Phew ! What a day .
High winds and monsoon rain all morning , thought i was going to get drenched going to the land , but it seemed to ease at 1.30ish , so waited a bit and it stopped by 2, so made a break for it .
Got there and back without getting wet !
The river here on the farm has broken it's banks . Nearly up to the road nearer the village , so it may flood if we get more rain tonight ? Well it is pissing down again now , so things may be interesting tomorrow .

yep, another wild morning - another tree down - that's eight (I think) since I moved here less than 2 years ago.

still tonights rain should be mostly over after midnight and then there should be 3 days of nearly dry weather before the rains come back.  :fc:

It has been very wet and windy here in Shropshire but no where near as bad as some of you are having. I feel for anyone who is having to travel. Driving to the shops was bad enough.
