Umm  .............  I have to be brutally honest here and tell you all that given a secondhand dishwasher as a wedding anniversary present a number of years ago  (a very rich aunt and uncle, and one of the very earliest of dishwashers, so not a super duper all singing all dancing one like I have now  ,  with no dishwash tablets included)  I did actually put in fairy liquid.   *hangsheadinshameforlettingmygenderdown*

But I had a lovely clean kitchen afterwards

My OH is different, I must admit. He loads the dishwasher (I don't do it the way he likes it) and he buys all cleaning materials in bulk. At any time we have at least two spares of everything.

I once read of a chap whose ex-wife stated "washing motorbike engine blocks in the dishwasher" as grounds for divorce! 

Hope he was awarded custody of the dishwaher on the grounds of his wifes unreasonable behaviour

Well, I have to say I use washing up liquid in my dishwasher, when I have failed again to buy dishwasher tablets.

And it is only said process of experimentation, and mopping up  that means I now know how much to put in (answer - much less than you think  )
