The pup is near Cirencester
It is from a litter sired by my dog Bill who is an excellent working dog (and would be really good if he wasn't cursed with a poor trainer) . Bill has a long wide outrun ---if he can see the sheep he will bring them to you. He regularly gathers and moves 300 ewes + lambs
The dam belongs to a shepherd who did some lambing work for me ---she is a steady calm worker and is the main dog on a 500 ewe flock
I think they are selling for £250
I have one of the litter

I am near Warminster if you want to see the sire working----Scotsgirl I see you are near Pewsey? I have sheep very near you and will visit them soon if you want to see the sire working

I only have about 40 sheep. Would he get bored? I can soon occupy him with ability if necessary.

Bored? ---I think most working collies are a bit bored unless they have something to occupy their minds
But an outdoor based life is the most important thing with plenty of exercise

If you have the time then training and working a herding dog can be very rewarding

I 100% agree...... we keep around 50 Ewes and I have a dog She is the best dog I have ever owned so loyal. Never on a lead never in her Kennel She has the run of the farm all day and night... Loves working the sheep But can over work them because of the limited number we keep. Life is so much easier with a good dog.

what an interesting website you have tim - how do you introduce the wool shedding part of genetics to the breed? do you introduce something like soay blood or do Wiltshire horn shed anyway and you select the best for breeding?

If I remember correctly 16% of the worlds sheep are hairsheep/shedding sheep so introducing shedding to a flock is easy
Shedding is the natural state  -----woolly sheep have a mutant gene for wool retention and we have bred them this way to harvest wool (when it was wanted and profitable)

Wilts Horns are the best traditional shedding breed but I have also used Barbados Black Belly/Katahadin /Dorper genetics

If you want to breed wool shedding into your flock it will take on average 2 crosses with a shedding breed---doesn't take long
