John,  your t20 will drive a topper no problem,  I've seen them with 6ft ones on the back, but my view is that 5ft is the ideal size,  they can handle the weight (not too light on the front end) and they are about the same width as the tractor, meaning you can fit through quite tight gaps between trees.  Any narrower you cannot get to the edge of things because your wheels are wider than the mower.  With t20s you have 3 functional issues to deal with.
1. The pto shaft is smaller than standard.  There are a number of ways to over come this, give me a shout if you are not aware.
2. The pto is live drive,  difficult to explain what this means,  there is a thread in equipment about this,  basically can be made better by the fitting of an over run adaptor.
3. The hydraulics have only depth control, not position control as on later models eg the 35.  This means you cannot hold the topper at the right height with the hydraulic controls,  again. There are a number of options to solve this issue.

I don't know if you know this stuff,  if you need further info just let me know.

Cheers. Stu

Ps our ted 20. Is affectionately called 'Rusty' for obvious reasons !  Our 35. Is called Herbie Fergie named by me when I was 11..... I'm now 45 !!!     So what's yours going to be called ?

Hi, I've got a TEA 20 and it is fine with a 5ft Fleming topper behind it, was advised that the 6ft would be a bit big, the fergie is better around the orchard with the topper on than the bigger Ford 4000.

Stu, for my orchard with the fleming it's fine with just letting the skids run on the floor, the ground is fairly flat so either up or down is ok. An overrun clutch is useful but I have run without it. If I need to top anywhere that's difficult with lots of control needed then I use another tractor I'm afraid, I've got the Ford or a IH 454.
I have a modern size pto shaft fitted to the fergie now, about £80 from agriline I think.
I know it wasn't the question but for a smallholding I think the Fergie is a bit too limiting to have as the only tractor. Possible but not the easiest.  I make hay so have a drum mower and baler, the Fergie could not power them.

  Getting excited for you!   Love Grey Fergies too but no good on our wet slopes.
Have you got the barb-b fired up yet? (make sure it is water proof!)
Linda

Don't wrestle with pigs, they will love it and you will just get all muddy.

Let go of who you are and become who you are meant to be.

Don't you worry about the BBQ  :roflanim:

we will make sure, once we are settled in , the BBQ area will be sorted

ref the Fergie, I will only have a 3 acre paddock, which i will split into two, and a entrance paddock of about 1/2 acre
the rest is woodland of about 1 .1/2  acres. this is one reason why i like the little grey so much..its not a massive place, and i will stick a gravel track through the paddocks so i will have easy access to the veg plot

John & Helen,

I am still working on the info for you,  taking a bit more putting together than I thought, and have decided to to a good job so the info will be there for any one else.

The diesel is a TEF.  Petrols were TEA,  Petrol/Parafin TED.

The only exception is the a kit was brought out to retro fit a Perkins P3 diesel engine to the TEA model when diesel became a cheaper fuel. So yours could be one of these, though they are relatively rare- and easily identified as the bonnet line is higher to accommodate the taller engine.

Have you got a pic of yours we can see ?
