wide brimmed waterproof hat
« on: November 04, 2013, 02:01:41 pm »
I want what i can best describe as a waterproof cowboy hat

i want a stiff brim as i wear glasses and in wet weather it drives me nuts keeping them dry, I have looked in outdoor type shops to no luck.

anyone any suggestions where i might look for one?

I have definitely seen such items on peoples heads but can't find one in the shops...

You tend to see that sort of thing at the agri shows. Alternatively you could buy some windscreen wipers for your glasses  ;D

Gabi is modeling our waterproof headgear , I got this from our feed merchants 3 years ago , brilliant in the cold and wet.

I was looking for something like that last  year and I ended up with a waxed cap like Gabi with the deer stalker flaps, that way I can keep mine on with my hood up, it works better for me as just a waterproof hood falls over my eyes but the peak on a cap keeps it like a gutter and away from my eyes, the only ways I saw was the Barbour ones that are often sold at country fares...I was actually shocked that for some reason, womens/Ladies, water proof hats are not that functional yet we (usually) have much  more elaborate hair do's to keep tidy!! I bought one from Tesco but this year another from some chain store, like I said, I was looking as well!!  Try shooting gear too!

I got my wide brimmed waterproof hat from our local Cornwall Farmers store in Penzance. I don't have a picture of it but it has a stiff, 5 inch-ish level brim all the way round. I think it might be a fishing type hat as it has a feather in the hat band.
It cost £19.99

Speak to Mr Roger Snook of Snooks Outfitters, West Street, Bridport, Dorset.  He can source you a hat from anywhere in the world; it's a brilliant shop

I have a brown cowboy style one, by drizabone. It's actually waxed but holds its shape even after scrunching it up to stuff in my pocket. Iv had it 10 yrs and its still really ace, very comfy and fits well so doesn't fly off in wind too much.

That ebay one that Sandy linked looks good - but get the waxed one.
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age
