change of plan
« on: October 29, 2013, 07:17:30 am »
We lost our beloved greyhound Troy on September 19th. We were all devastated, including our 9year old lurcher. While she made out that she merely tolerated him it turns out she actually quite liked him really, and is now lost without him.
So, we decided to get her a friend. We were looking for a dog just out of puppy stage that would be old enough to not bother our dog but young enough to make me go walking more. (Ftp does not go for walks often as she can't see and it confuses her. She prefers our garden where she knows where everything is).
We have been looking round rescues online, and yesterday we were in the town and decided to visit the council kennels. (I think you can guess what comes next!)
We walked in and looked at a few kennels, then the woman showing us round asked if we like lurchers. We were taken into an out building and introduced to an elderly whippet type called Mac is. She came in with an abscess in her mouth so severe she couldn't eat, she is really skinny and riddled with fleas.
We are going to see if gyp likes her in half an hour and hopefully bringing her home  ;D

We took Gyps to meet her, and so far so good. They were very waggy but not OTT when they first met, then they were walking together like they were old pals  ;D

We have brought her home until the weekend initially, if all goes well we take her back on Saturday and they will microchip her and we will sign for her and that's it.

We stopped off for sausage sandwiches on the way home and she got some sausages - she just about stood on my partners shoulder to get to them so manners is clearly something to work on!

When we got home the two dogs had a bit of a chase about then Mavis snuggled up to OH. She had to get a bath as she was covered in flea poo even though they said she had been frontlined. She didn't smell too pleasant either.

She has really taken to OH and it just feels like she belongs here. Fingers crossed gyp and Mavis continue to get on well and come Saturday she will be officially ours.

I cannot believe how alike Mavis is to our old whippet/lurcher 'Gypsy' ( long gone  :'( )
She looks very at home there, she knows where she is well off  ;)   :fc: for Saturday to hurry up.
