Hello from the Coney Catching Chap
« on: October 20, 2013, 01:05:01 am »
Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening,
I am a bloke in my 50`s who loves country living :pig:  :chook: :cow: :dog: :goat: :horse: :&> :farmer: :sheep:
I would like to offer my services in rabbit control  :bunny:
As I have recently semi retired I thought about what I could do
So this idea came to mind
Visiting different places in Britain is a great love of mine and so I thought that I could combine my love of travelling with some useful volunteer work. :excited:
I will provide both testimonials and character references to interested parties.

The Service

I provide a reliable service. The service specializes in rabbit control, this has the advantage of you not getting a jack of all trades [pest control ], instead you are getting a specialist of one [rabbit management]. I have been involved in rabbit control for over 35 years and I have provided this service all over the country. The service can facilitate solutions to all your rabbit problems using methods of the most traditional to the most forward thinking techniques of control. This diverse service is controlled by you with an agreed management strategy. I use the term management strategy as this service treats both the symptoms and the source, and is lead by you. The service starts with a consultation of your rabbit problems, after the consultation an on location assessment will take place with yourself, we then agree on the action plan and the methods you choose to solve and manage your rabbit difficulty, next we agree on your expected outcomes from the service, and of course some agreed timescales. No practical work will be carried out until this process has been agreed and completed. This is a service user lead service based on your view point, I take pride in this unique service and my goal is to balance total professionalism with a personable approach. Server user satisfaction is vital for my future plans as a volunteer.

Thanks for the reply. :) I was wondering if I had offended some users as no one seemed to want to talk :(

I have harvested wild rabbits since a young lad, mostly due to not having much money and it helped my mum out with the weekly shopping list. I still eat rabbit on a regular basis as it is the healthiest meat you can get and it helps keep my cholesterol down.

Anyway maybe some rabbits will turn up soon.

  hello, welcome from Durham.
Don't feel you offended. I read your post and took it as you wanting to Market the job rather than introduce yourself to the forum. Perhaps pop your great CV into the Market Place section, you may get a response for work from there. Ill certainly keep you in mind WHEN I finally find myself a place big enough to accumulate pests instead of just the couple of allotments  :garden:
In the meantime enjoy the site and join the conversations. By the way, what animals do you keep or have an interest in? (other than rabbit  ;D )

Hi from the bigchicken up in Fife. My lad and myself do a bit of ferreting just as a day out for a bit of sport, best of luck getting some rabbiting not so easy when folks don't know you as I'm sure you know. I have tried through this forum to get a bit or ferreting with very little success, always found it best to find land with rabbits and approach land owner and see what they say, usually once you get permission and you get known as a reliable sort the word will spread. That's my experience.
Shetland sheep, Castlemilk Moorits sheep, Hebridean sheep, Scots Grey Bantams, Scots Dumpy Bantams. Shetland Ducks.

Thanks Guys,

You comments are appreciated. I have kept ducks and chickens in the past, however old foxy got them all. I know own a few dogs and ferrets. The dogs I own are all different . Bubo is a Cane Corso mastiff and I got him as a guard dog, I look after my elderly mother and as we live in the country when I leave her alone at home she feels a lot safer with him at her feet. He is a fantastic pet, very loving, loves cuddles, a bit of a nanas boy, however he is also one hell of a guard dog and I truly believe someone would have to be mad to try and enter the house uninvited. Bella is my elegant lurcher, very lady like until she sees a rabbit and then she would run through fire to catch her prey, again she loves nothing more than to have your full attention and loves you talking silly to her. Brier is my Patterdale cross Cocker spaniel “cokerdale” she loves to cuddle on your lap and lick you all over, nearly as much as she loves to dive into bushes after rabbits.

My ferrets are called Frankie, Freda and Flo they are all great pets, running all over you, inside and outside your clothes, they love to lick my ears and nose, yet just like the others they love to work and get very excited when out ferreting, they are very thorough in checking warrens out and are determined little hunters, however they  are so tame they can even  be handled underground when next to a rabbit they have caught

I think I may have made my rabbiting request a bit to professional, its not a job or work to me as I am volunteering. I’m just looking to catch some rabbits for my freezer while helping someone reduce a problem with too many rabbits.

It is very, very difficult these days to get permission and even though I have permission locally I have done myself no favours by getting rid of all the rabbits as I now have nowhere to go to catch rabbits. The only good to come out of it for me is the references I have been promised by the farmers.

So Ill just go on wishing and waiting and keep on knocking doors. I just wish I new were to aim my efforts.

Any way I’m not giving up just yet.

Welcome! Our cats seem to have the rabbits under control at the moment (the badger though is a different problem). If you have got something new to offer to the world of rabbiting, it might be worth contacting Brogdale, the National Fruit Tree collection. We were there for apple day last weekend and they're having huge problems with rabbits in some of their orchards. Mind you, this is in Kent so maybe not on your usual wandering route....
