We are vets at the University of Liverpool Vet School and we want to know more about your pigs. If you live in England and have pet pigs or are a smallholder with less than 10 breeding sows then head to www.liv.ac.uk/farm/pigs for more information and to fill out the survey - You could win £40 amazon vouchers!

My usual fee for sharing my knowledge and experience is £70 an hou ( I believe that is simular to a Vet call out fee). How long will the survey take?

A 'please' and a 'thank you' wouldn't go amiss, either  ::)

It is a bit spammy to join just to get us to fill in a questionnaire isn't it?

Without asking first, yes. We've had a few similar posts lately, but most do ask in advance.

Trouble is you're an audience in demand! Maybe if they guaranteed you'd win £40 of Amazon vouchers they'd get a better response...

This is the survey that I put a link to in my post.  We may all scorn at it, but a survey is surely the thing that we need if it is filled in correctly. DEFRA have no idea what pigs are out there, none whatsoever, this might give them a better idea if the micro/pet people fill it in. If this then goes to DEFRA which I hope it will end up there, it might just waken them up to the fact that there are thousands of pigs out there that they don't know about. Then again knowing DEFRA, they will just turn a blind eye.

How can you say that "a survey is surely the thing that we need" and in the next breath say that its bound to be ignored? Even if it isn't ignored, isn't it fair to presume that its very the people who neglect and mistreat  micro pigs, who are unlikely to bother filling in this survey?

DEFRA always ignore almost everything Bodger especially when it comes to pet pigs.  ;D And actually it is the micro/pet pig people that will fill it in, you see most of them don't think they are doing anything wrong. You need to go on FB and look up a few uk pet pig sites, they sing from the roof tops on everything to do with their pigs so they will love a survey like this. And if the information goes to DEFRA which I don't think it will, it might help further along the line.

Although to be honest, I am questioning why they are aiming the survey at smallholders as well.

I don't mind big brother when it comes to protecting our herds of traditional breeds as long as it is done effectively which will be a first if that happens  :(

We're more likely to be beaten with the stick that we've made.
