I've got a ewe looking in lamb!
« on: October 02, 2013, 06:42:41 pm »
One of my ewes called willow lambed last this year as a shearling. She had twins and towards the later few weeks before lambing looked VERY big and her belly was lower than others.

I've noticed lately that she actually looks in lamb, she is wide on the belly area (she's not fat at all) and her belly is low. Out of all my lambs this year I had a rig ram lamb (only one ball and it was up inside) who worryingly was her lamb, so I am now worried that he got her. He was taken out in July at only just turned 3 months. I never saw him show any interest in any of the ewes and So if she was in lamb she would only be 2 months in lamb so I would expect her to not show signs this early.

Am I just paranoid? Are they like people and they are all different shape's and that's just her, Or am I expecting a December lamb

I would be very surprised if she was in lamb especially as you took the rig lamb away at 3 months.  Ewes are all different shapes and some of mine look constantly pregnant whilst others loose the baby weight and look trim again within no time (like Victoria Beckham!).

It is possible though for some sheep to lamb twice in a year - normally this is certain breeds such as finnish landraces & done by using teaser rams & sponging so you get 2 crops

Just google lambing twice a year & more comes up x
