what is the best breed to raise for meat??
« on: September 19, 2013, 01:57:28 pm »
Okay here is the plan please point out any and all flaws in my plan!

I'm looking to raise around 20 chickens as meet birds for personal use. (Would these birds need to be wormed or vaccinated?)

the plan is to have 5 to 6 hensand and a  Cockerel keep them all year around for eggs then March April time collect 25 to 30 eggs and incubate them.

I  then intend to  raise those birds as table birds and change the breeding hens every two years. I
plan to keep them in a large enclosure and move them once a week once / a fortnight whatever is needed so they always have access to clean clear ground. However if it was possable without spending 5million £  :-J  I would like to them free range  but I'm not sure how this would work as I only have 4 foot stock fence. and they would just jump fly over wouldn't they???

the main thing I'm looking for a above all else is fantastic flavour rather than ridiculously fast growth rates.
thanks for you help

I have 7 light Sussex 7 of which are cockerels that I plan to kill for meat, they are now 21 weeks old and although they are big there doesn't seem to be much meat on them. They free range and eat very little growers or corn. Will let you know how they turn out .
