How to catch a duck?
« on: September 17, 2013, 08:41:29 am »
One of my new ducks has a bad leg but it won't come off the pond so I can't check it out. The pond is also down a steep slope so not easy access.

Will a fishing net catch it and if so can anyone recommend one?

Will it not come off the pond for Corn ?  ours are on the river most of the day but as soon as I get a bucket of corn they are up on the bank within seconds

The others all come off for corn and bread but this one is injured and I think the trip up the bank is just too much for her  :(

I think a net with a long handle would work - if she stayed still long enough.  Hope the pond isn't deep or you could be swimming out to the island to pick her up  :innocent:

Can you get hold of a landing net off a fisherman ? throw the grains to the edge and catch with the net. I have managed this once on the river with an injured wild mallard

I think I might buy a landing net. I am sure will need to use it in the future for something.

Somehow it has managed to get out of the pond. I am hoping I can entice her and the other ducks into their new home tonight. Corn and bread at the ready

She managed to get out of the pond herself although not sure how.
I already have a small net for catching tiddlers so, as she can't move around on land very quickly I managed to get the net over her head so that I could get hold of her and put her in the duck house at night.
Done it 2 nights running now. I am hoping she might get the message soon.

To be honest i am not sure which part of her is the problem but think it must be her leg as she flops down all the time. When she is on the water you can't tell the difference.
She is eating well though so there doesn't seem to be any other problems.
