We made it. Relief relief relief.
« on: September 16, 2013, 07:19:44 pm »
Ginger Pig and her two Kune Kune pals made the trip this morning.  In comparison to last year when I cried my eyes out,  to say I'm relieved this time that we actually got them to slaughter after the hassle of the summer, is an understatement!  We've yet to taste kune kune meat but I'm looking forward to our first experience.

We've also been thinking that based on what everyone said here about their experiences with erysipelas and the fact that the kunes didn't catch it, I do wonder whether ery that was the problem at all, or whether the health issues we had were specific to those two weaners...

Lambs go tomorrow :fc: nothing happens to them overnight!

So good to hear some better news  from you.
Linda

Don't wrestle with pigs, they will love it and you will just get all muddy.

Let go of who you are and become who you are meant to be.

Well done  KK meat is lovely - I'm sure you will enjoy it. I'll be interested to hear how heavy they are and how much meat you get back because we've got two going the end of October.

They were 62kg and 57kg dead weight (the tamworth was 67kg) and to be honest from what we have seen the amount of meat we've got back is definitely comparable to last years Berskhires.  Kunes were 8 months and tamworth was 7 months.  The 2 taster chops we cooked whilst butchering were given a massive  by all present too, so I reckon it'll be kunes next year for sure.
