To be honest I treat the outsides once a year and a few likely mite spots in side such as perch ends, joints etc inside but i'm not splashing it around and I never move the birds out at all.

I put a mesh frame over the treated area outside so they don't rub against it.

As long as they are not coming into contact with large wet areas of the stuff and the house is well ventilated I don't see any reason to move them.

It can take weeks, sometimes months to dry..

Great stuff though! :D

I alway use the real stuff, but be aware if you put the birds back in a newly treated coop that has not had time to de-vaporise the birds will suffer from breathing in the fumes and it causes eye problems.

It takes at least 4-6 days of dry sunny weather for the fumes to clear.

You can buy it online or at least you used to be able to. but I think it has to be in quite largish drum so it may be better if you could share when buying?

Hi Bloomer I build all my own coops and runs and treat each part as I build it.

Make sure that the roof section can be removed for future treating, as next time you need to get in the joints it makes it alot easier.

I had red mite in 3 coops this year and had to rip the roof off because I'd nailed it to get at them.

that's the main reason for the change the current house (acquired elsewhere not built by me) has a fixed felted roof, guess where the mites are!!!

removable roof will be much easier...

I'm pretty sure SCATS and other Agri feed suppliers can still sell it

Roofing felt is a nightmare for red mites.

I've replaced it on mine with corrugated tin, over plywood. Now the mites are only in the tongue and groove sides  >:(

I once put chooks back in too soon after treating with diesel and nearly lost one to breathing problems - similar issues with creosote.
