Newbie seeking books/courses

Howdi folks

Im v much an accidental smallholder - got  5 acres of mountain foothill ground in the Berwyns/Powys where we are creating a retreat and bought some reject minority breed grey-faced Dartmoors last summer - 3 new born lambs (two castrated rams and one in-tact ewe and a two yr old ewe retired from breeding) and have now adopted a wee 5mth old 'runt' lamb of same breed - all for help with keeping the grass down - they make adorable companions - v friendly

Yikes - there seems so much to learn - the welsh farmers round here are v busy and not free to offer reliable support really

Can anyone suggest any books/courses - I keep reading yr posts which does help and hope some of yr expertise soaks in :)

Ta :)

katescountryschool for lambing courses with the Bevans, who did the first Lambing Live.  Lots of practical stuff and really nice people.  Tim Tyne's book on sheep keeping (he'll have to put me on commission soon).

Tim and Dot also run a lambing course - over 4 days, I think, so lots of opportunity to learn an awful lot.

Indeed - our four day course is the Rolls Royce of lambing courses. Pm me for details if you're interested.

As far as books go, you only need two books - The Sheep Book for Smallholders, by Tim Tyne, and The Veterinary Book for Sheep Farmers by David Henderson.

I have found the Agnes C Winter books a bit less heavy on the hand than the Henderson... but for managing sheep - yes Tim's book is the only one you need.

Their lambing course is great, but book soon.

We've got a list of books on the site here:

If we've missed any that are recommended please let me know and I'll add them.  :sheep:
