Can anyone tell me where to looking for grant assistance to develop the small holding......anything to do with orchards,woodland, pastures and animals...... :excited:

Try your local district council, something along the lines of Countryside and Conservation Grants (that's what they are called here).  Good luck.

SRDP - or whatever the equivalent is in England - although there is a lot of paperwork involved.

If you can afford it engage an agricultural agent. They will charge a few hundred quid but will get you thousands in grants! He/ she will look at your land, tell you what you are eligible for and complete all the forms knowing just what to say. It's worth drafting a business plan outlying how you will develop your smallholding over the medium to long term and use it to support your grant applications. By doing so you will be streets ahead of others also applying.
You will be amazed at how much you can claim for and many people are put of by the paperwork.
