One last (for now) question.  What age of ram/lamb should I look for?  Our present boy was 9 months when we got him and tupped that same year.  I'm guessing I need to go along the same lines - something born December or last spring?  Would an early spring lamb from this year be too young?

Thank you!!

I do hope not as I've just bought a spring born Zwartble ram lamb.

Any ram lamb from 5 months of age can be ready, willing and able.  My HD had just turned 7 months when he went in with my girls last year.

For a small number of ewes, a spring-born ram lamb of a meat - fast growing - breed should be fine to work by 5 or 6 months old.  As with tupping ewe lambs it's best if he is at least two-thirds of his mature weight.  It's helpful if he is first put with a few experienced girls to learn how it all works  :-J

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing
