Wiltshire Horn Ram Wanted To Hire - Gloucester
« on: August 04, 2013, 06:52:21 pm »
My normal supplier of a Wilts Horn Ram has sold her flock. I am looking for one to serve my 8 ewes from November onwards. Can collect and return.

Would be prepared to buy one with someone else if that is in the same situation but wants different lambing dates!!

I don't have one for hire, but I do have one you might like to buy, id you were so inclined.

Pedigree ram - born 2008, probably has a couple of years left in him. £170 if you like. I can PM you photos if you want.

I really dont want to buy one!! I have a Shropshire Ram organised for my shropshires and if I cant get a Wilts Horn I may well put him on the Wilts and see what the offspring taste like!!

Think you may have to consider biting the bullet and buying one now as time is moving on and many people will be using their tups on their own ewes for the next few weeks at least.  There are some advertised on Preloved and Farming Ads or SteveHants may still have one available to purchase. Alternatively many of the livestock markets will still have a few rams going through that might be of interest to you and as many will have chosen their rams by now, you might find yourself a bargain.

It has taken us 4 years to get hold of a wilts horn ram to put our girls to. In that time we have had to get used to sorting whatever we could find- usually a lleyn. This year however we managed to sort out a shared arrangement and Arthur has been with us since May.  He's currently in doing the biz and will head back home at the end of the month to his other wives before coming back next may. No help to you but we should have a selection of ram lambs ready by july that you could use next year and then sell/eat. Like you we don't really want ram here permanently but this arrangement has worked well so far. Good luck

Not yet.....and the clock is ticking!!
Will revert to plan B if required of using the Shropshire Ram but would really prefer to get a Wilts Horn.
