Session 3 - we had a live runner duck and several plates of chopped sausages to 'ignore' today as well as other dogs 'off lead'. oh my life. We got there in the end but I think having the youngest dog there, we have moments where we come close to being expelled - keeping his concentration is sometimes tricky, he just wants to play. The duck lived to tell the tale though and murphy is well rewarded!

What a day you both had

in this heat too ( it's hot here anyway ).
Your Murphy, being so young, will most likely catch on and not forget. The young ones seem to take that bit extra to get the control in some situations but once there become the most reliable from thereon.

Have you had a look at at susan garrets website? (say yes training) If you sign up to the news letter you get free web info bits, she is FAB at teaching how to get your dog to work under distraction and how to have an awesome recall.

Also when pigs fly- a book by J. Killion has amazing focus exercises.

need lots of reassurance, I nearly got weepy today (OK I DID get weepy) when things were going wrong but we turned it round in the end

I'm going to look up those books FF - the book I currently have is a little too basic now so I need to move up. I think I've learnt so much more about how dogs naturally do what there breed has been bred to do. We have 2 labs there, both good at retrieving (one is a trainee gundog too) and murphy being half terrier/half samoyed is quite a chaser, loves anything squeaky and easily distracted (sammy? terrier?)

You should like when pigs fly, its a fun to read book. The author competes at obedience and agility with English Bull terriers. it is a bit American though..

Susan Garrets way of training is great, lots of fun and bonding, but good rules and boundaries. If you can get hold of a copy of Crate Games, its fab for teaching self control and drive. have a loom at her blog videos of Swagger, they are great! She also does online webinairs.
