We have been watching the housing market like hawks for the last year. The 3 ideal houses we have been keeping an eye on have all sold now. im a bit disappointed as its taking us so long to get our house ready for sale. i havent seen anything else suitable for us all to replace the favourite 3.
i was wondering if its fate why it hasnt worked out easy. maybe our ideal house is waiting for us and its fate in process.

does anyone believe in fate or it is just luck.

i often think my place is cursed as every single time we try to leave for a mini holiday or to try and put it up for sale - something happens that stops us.  either animals get injured or escape, or things in the house get broken. (our gas hob is now broken beyond repair and as its oversized its about £800 to replace)
i do believe in some kind of angels as every single time my car breaks down it has always been in a totally safe place - usually adjacent to a garage or just as i get home. i tend to think my late brother is watching us at moments like that.
i wonder if you can get bad angels too - who try to teach you lessons.

That's my thoughts, and my husbands, we replaced our very expensive range cooker for less than £200, not sure how long ago but it was nearly new and was up for sale for something like £150 and they even delivered it as they were moving out, the rest of the cost was installing it and that was £40....does the job, a little smaller so we do have a sausage trap down the side but much better than the old one.
Re moving, I too have been watching the market like a hawk, we now have had 2 quick offer es fell through, only at the first stage but enough for us to look at other houses etc, all houses we like are now sold and gone, although saying that, a lot in our price range £225,000 now (valued at (260,000) are also still on the market, ours is expensive to live in, high energy bills and upkeep, even though our mortgage is low.  We do love this place and many people who have lived here before come back to visit, its just too much to keep up, cleaning, decorating and repairs are a big issue......then the fuel bill to pay. I did get  upset as an ideal house was sold but now I keep seeing many others and wonder, like  you, if some one or something was preventing us moving.....this house was off the market when we sold and only back on when we actually moved up to Scotland in a rented house...no regrets at all so....we will keep wishing and hoping that our fairy wants us to move

I'm not into Fate and Angels, but there's certainly a bit of Serendipity around.  Your house is out there and once you have it you will be glad you didn't go for the earlier ones.

In my case it's the place for stray chopped onions and other veg. ::)

Honestly - why provide space for an oversized cooker in a single bedroom house?

the biggest thing most people will be guilty of is...... falling in love with a property when we are not ready...I am so Guilty of this... my Helen won't even look..well! maybe a quick glance... we are now almost ready , so as many know , we started viewing... the two that really felt like they would be superb where just not right..yet the one we thought wouldn't be...was lovely and really felt good

if its meant to be, it will.....if not , then the right one will come up... don't give up the hope.... yours will be along when your ready  as will ours

but i don't hurt to dream  :fc:

They say 'whats for you won't go by you' and sometimes that is so very true. Frustrating as the whole upping sticks and moving is , here is another one that thinks your ideal home is there waiting for you to find it.

Took us 3 years to sell our old house, in that time many amazing places were sold under our noses and I was really sad. Then...a couple came and fell in love with our old place and we suddenly found this one online, it had been on the market for 3 years too! sitting empty and no-one wanted it...all fell into place so well. Fate? maybe.

After 2 years of looking we found our ideal property, ended up in a bidding war, and were eventually rejected despite being the highest offer as the other party had sold there house and were ready to proceed.

We were deeply depressed, but we picked ourselves up and decided to crack on with all those little jobs that would make our place fit for sale, get it on the market , sell it and move into rented, so next time a suitable place came up we would be the cash buyer ready to proceed.

Wind forward 3 very depressing months and we were 2 weeks from completion on selling, and busy looking for a rented property, the phone rang and it was the estate agent saying our original ideal property had fallen through, the seller was now desperate for quick completion, would we still be interested.  2 weeks later we moved in.

Fate ? Luck ?  I believe in fate, but you can influence luck by your actions too.

As I said in the Hay-fever thread - we sold in town, wanted to move out of town, so went into rented for 4 months when the written offer came in - gave us the chance to get what we wanted.  So if I have no other advice it is to get your house ready to sell, put it on the market, and do what Sandy is doing - when you get a verbal offer have a look around, then when a written offer comes in you know what's available; but don't be afraid to go into rented for a time.  We did it with two teenagers and three dogs! .

If/when we sell and the houses we have ear marked are gone, we will try to rent and I will be on here like a flash begging for some one to take us on, dogs and all, we actually loved where we rented before, trouble is the farmer sold all his cottages and has now build luxury flats and houses that are out of our reach.....sadly, we are happy here...very happy...the house is spot on for us (apart from fuel bills) and in an ideal location, central to sea (sort of) mountains (sort of) woodland and wonderful walks, with big cities in reach and fantastic transport links, I can wonder over to the shop, Dr, hairdressers, Post office, chemist and library to use the internet if needed and within yards be wondering around Clackmannan Tower and the lovely local walks....our garden is secure and ideal for dogs with out buildings...and now we are going to put some very raised beds where the chickens are...may even grass one area with that tending stuff :innocent: :innocent: ....when we look at the fuel  bills its the same as 3  houses as this is as big an area as at least 3 normal size houses...and we get a constant and easy income, being on here I am earning money ::)     SOLD it to you?     honestly, we are only moving just to cut costs and  be able to go away.......our dream house has been and gone, all have been next to forests and very cheap and beautifully decorated with log burners etc........fingers crossed and off to buy a lottery ticket

You should post the Clyde link in the Marketplace thread, if you haven't already, and add it to your signature.

The right house will find you.
Our last two did.
We tried for 4 or 5 places and each one we lost. We had cash in place for deposit, mortgage agreed and no chain. Yet we still lost them.
Finally there were two.
I spoke to the owners of ONE and told them what I could afford to pay and they rang the next day and said not enough. So we bought TWO and lived there happily for 10 years. This was after two years of searching and travelling and bidding and losing out. The house chose us. Kept popping to the top of the pile (we used paper brochures!). it wouldn't go away. it chose us.

Then, last year when we had that house on the market for 18 months we had a similar scenario, the house sold and, suddenly we KNEW the house and where we wanted to be was 800yds down the road. We own that house now, the house that chose us, and we will be there until we are no more.

Despair not. It WILL work, the houses know who they want and who is right, they will find you:-)
Good luck

Funny thing is, the house we moved from was on the market for a year, we had 4 offers that fell through, in that time we were buying a choc box cottage backing onto private woodland with the most picturest setting, in the end we had to pull out as they had another offer....so we decided to venture somewhere that looked nice, I had seen the house we are in now along with another, the other one  had a few 0 missing and was not what I thought but 2 million......anyway, this one then went off the market but we moved, we were only in the house a few days when my mobile went as we had no BT and we came to view and we bought...no regrets!! now its time to sell up and have a little shed in the woods somewhere

I think househunting is like trying to find the right man. They are out there its just a case of planets moving or something to bring you together at the right time.
Having said that, the 'perfect' house that found us is falling apart, smells quite dodgy in places, costs a fortune to maintain and no-one else really wanted. Now of course I'm not comparing it to my husband, oh no, not at all   :innocent:
