Any particular breed? Friends of mine near Saline are reducing their Shetland flock and another is reducing coloured Ryelands.

Might be struggling around Fife, i've been looking for the last 2 years.

I'm now looking all over Scotland for somewhere to rent & feel it might be easier finding that perverbial needle in the haystack.

The estate agents that advertise the type of properties we're looking for tend to bump the prices up so much they become uneconomical to take on.

For example, i thought i'd found my paradise near to Huntly last year....... 4 bed cottage with outbuildings 4 acres with room to expand & was dealing directly with the landowner. A peppercorn rent was agreed as there was a little work needing done to the cottage along with a long tennancy which suited everyone.
But because it had been advertised through Savill's, they then stuck their nose in where it wasn't needed & told the owner he couldn't rent it to us for that price.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, the owner told savill's to get stuffed, took the cottage off the market & conveyed his appologies to us.

Well these are older ewes but would make great mutton  , would love to eat your grass, and I'm sure they could have another lamb!

We could also do you a deal on some mule lambs which you would get more years out of!

All i need now is the land!  Theres about 3-4 acres going close-by for rent, but only thing is that i'd need to fence it myself, so cost of fencing 4 acres would be about 1k, which i don't have at the moment upfront.  So still looking! But will let you know as soon as i find someplace Clairie as the ewes sound perfect for my purpose!!

Perhaps your bank would lend you the fencing money - on a short term loan.  They do it for cars, boats and holiday homes so I don't see why not!

I'm only looking to rent short term, until i find suitable land to actually buy.  So not really willing to spend 1k fencing someone elses land.

I think you will have a big hill to climb trying to buy in Central Scotland - we were discussing this earlier today.  So if you can find something to rent treat it as semi permanent - if you leave you can take the fencing with you, provided you use materials that are moveable.

TBh with our sheep I'd use proper fencing... perhaps deer fencing  - unless you're thinking that stuff they used in Jurassic Park?
