[Small Plot Big Ideas]

I'm not sure what I had expected when I saw we had one hen sitting on 7 eggs soon after we moved in but now, about 3 weeks later funnily enough, I have found a couple have hatched. They all seem fine so fine without our help despite the torrential rain that comes and goes today.


Needless to say we haven't quite prepared for this eventuality so haven't got any chick crumb or other stuff so a quick dash to the local Farmway is needed in the morning I guess.


I'm hoping that a small amount of porridge oats and also a shallow dish with some water will do until we can get the proper bits and pieces!


They are safe enough in a disused chicken run for now but I'm not sure if we should move the mother and any young/unhatched eggs somewhere a little better? Into an outbuilding perhaps?


Any advice would be gratefully received though...

Hope the move went well ?
I am guessing these came with the house  I wouldn't move her until the eggs have hatched or at least any that are going to hatch as the chances are she will move off the eggs with her chicks and if there is still any going to hatch you will loose them.
had I seen this earlier you could have popped them up and put them in the incubator and we have a big sack of chick crumbs here as we buy the hen food in by the half ton to get a better price and let a few friends get them off us

Yep, we got a rooster and 9 or 10 hens with the house. I saw one was sitting on some eggs on our second day so thought we would see if anything happened but didn't expect much if I'm honest. 


There were only 7 eggs anyway and I can't imagine they will all hatch so it should be an easy way to learn. Finger crossed!
