..........ggrrhhh    am steaming here in Norfolk due to a senior management team that just ride rough-shod over people's feelings and have totally disregarded a wealth of work that I have done with a troubled student.  I can't say anymore than that obviously but am feeling mightily p***ed off and it reminds me even more why I want out of this rat-race where no-one really cares about people anymore and management just do things to suit themselves.

Not sure of your situation BUT!!!!
A lot of people put their heart and sole in to their jobs and still get paid and thought of the same as those who just do their job.
A lot of companies, however much they do care about their workers or their  clients have to pander to funding, if funding is result based, sometimes extra input on something that brings no extra output, is actually frowned upon.
I could give you loads of examples, I worked in education and in social care and experienced very similar although some times I did felt valued more from the client/service user and that was enough for me, also some times there are unscrupulous colleges that will and do take credit for work you have done.
One example was getting people back to work on a  government scheme, I, like colleges. thought we would help and support those who had been long term unemployed but we thought wrong, we were basically told that was a waste of time and resources so it was  better to work and sign up people who would get work without our  help, that way the company got better statistics and so more funding...I am not actually blaming the company, its how it worked, no way could they have employed us without the amount of funding they had.
Moral......people and workers are always dispensable, do  you job to your best ability but do not go out your way, it usually is not recognised!!

I was in a totally different business to yours but things were much the same. I was thought of as a weak manager for considering the feelings of my staff.

Thanks everyone - still seething although a little calmer     This is nothing to do with money or any changes - just a difficult child I have been working with to help them 'stay in school' - am really starting to get somewhere and they now trust me.  'Something' has happened outside of school and the child will now be mentored by someone else because of an organisational protocol in school - even though I feel I have built up a big element of trust and understanding.  And I was told this information by text message!!

So the child has to start again with someone else - what will they make of that?  Not to trust people 'cos they just move on?  And I feel that I am now not trusted when things get a bit trickier - and I am assistant head!!!!!!!

Used to see a lot of that in residential care etc, people make promises that they know they are not going to keep, I  used to cringe as I knew what the child was in for.....I used to support young people in a main stream school as well but I am talking over 20 years ago and things were so different, I  built up some great relationships with the young men, ....it meant a lot to me that they trusted me and it was reciprocated....sad but that's what happens in life, we all get let down all the time

Donna, I can see why you're angry. I'm afraid that it seems to be the way of the world that people don't matter, only results that are visible. A student's self esteem can't be measured so doesn't count. SMART targets? Don't get me started.

When I worked for a high street bank (for 22years on and off I may add), I believed in customer service rather than sales. That was fine until the whole mind set of banks changed and everyone got greedy. In the few months before I left, I was ridiculed and belittled by the management for not making my sales targets each month.
However, I had more thankyou letters, cards and presents than the rest of the branch put together every year. I also saved the bank thousands and thousands of pounds due to fraud detection. I could sniff a forged document at 50 paces and I regularly called the police to arrest people with forged passports etc. I was also the one sent down to see awkward and angry customers by lily livered managers who didn't have the balls to see them theirselves.
But, none of the above counted for anything, its was pure sales sales sales, all of which have come back to bite the banks on their bums!!
I meanwhile, ended my days there on Prozac. I so wish that I had kept some of the emails I had from one particular manager (since sacked by the bank), as they were evidence of bullying.
So, chin up CW, don't let the b*ggers grind you down. As with the banks, your managers' chickens WILL come home to roost!! Big hugs!
