It is very very rare that we have anyone come to the house. We generally finnish our chores at 6;30 ish and on Saturday I was digging about in a collapsed south facing wall ( significant point here) - in recent times we have cooled off in the pool. Last night it was skinny dipping as it was aq bit warm.
But tonight the OH opted for a bath whilst I cooked. An elderley neighbour appeared at the open back door and asked for my help.
She had been eating her supper when she felt something around her feet. Although she has poor sight she suspected it to be a snake.
By the time I inspected her kitchen the snake was in the middle of the floor but by the time I got Chris out of her bath to deal with is the snake was in a corner hissing away and a bit annoyed. A big bugger - about 4 foot so quite old.
Moral of the story - never eat your supper with the door open on a hot day when snakes are about and secondly never assume that you have complete privacey when you are in your garden cooling down.
