Chunky Cotton for Knitting
« on: July 21, 2009, 10:26:55 pm »
Hello

Anyone know where I might buy chunky cotton for knitting?

I am allergic to Wool, and all the knitting shops in Eire are closing down so I need to be able to order it by mail.

Can anyone recommend any yarn, sites or shops

Thanks in Advance ;D

if you can, try hobby craft http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/knitting.asp.

I know a lot are selling off some cotton for knitting and other non-wool type of balls of 'wool'

If you want me to get any 'wool' from the the clearance section of hobby craft and send it to you i am willing to do this as long as the cost is covered :)

the place i looked in edinburgh Kinnard fort i think it's called also had silk on clearance for knitting, I don't mind taking a trip to the glasgow one to get you some (I can always drag Anne and Sandra along for company, whether they like it or not ).

That is a very kind offer Linz - thank you ;D

I want some green - khaki or mixed green on DK or Chunky Cotton, can take mixed with silk or acrylic, but at least 60% cotton to keep its shape and feel.

Trouble is, until I get patterns sorted out I have no idea how many balls of wool I would need to knit a size 18, jumper or cardigan that comes down to your hips (i.e. coversup my biggish bum ::))

I will have a look on the sites and at my patterns and see what I can come up with

thanks again ;D ;D ;D Julie

Thanks again - got what I was after from the above links.

Also decided to cheat a bit - seen a lovely Khaki Green Cardigan on Simply Be's new catalogue for winter and its only 59.00 euro - cheaper than knitting and a lot quicker ;D

So now I can concentrate on knitting for Tara ( who's 11 but in size 9yr clothes)  I was always the same when I was young - Dad used to say "You don't get Diamonds as big as Bricks".

Shame I am brick shaped now though - ugh middle age spread and all that LOL ;D ;D ;D ;D
