I got a phonecall today from someone looking for some weaners, I asked if it was Kunekunes or traditional breed pigs they were after and the reply I got almost had me stuck for words (almost  )

They said that they had to have the traditional breeds because they couldn't eat Kunekune. I asked why and expected the standard response of "they're too fatty" or "the meat isn't good" (getting ready to extol the virtues of the little guys  ) but no !
The reason they couldn't eat Kunekune was because the council Animal health inspector had told them it was illegal, because they are a minature breed 

I mean, really ? have any of you ever heard anything so ridiculous  How on earth does someone who advises people for a living get it so, SO wrong ? 
I'm at the point of looking for the number to phone the council (not mine by the way) first thing on Monday to attempt to educate this 'official' a wee bit more  If he's spouting stuff like this, heaven only knows what else he's telling folk

What a load of absoloute sh*te - very worrying though - let the Local Authority that employs that AH Inspector that he (gotta be a bloke    ) obviously hasn't had any training since 1992     as the breed were imported in 1993 & the Maori's have been eating them for several centuries prior to that!  IDIOT!!!

Clearly the message needs correcting...  but the good news is, someone in officialdom does know that micropigs are illegal - and that's good, yeah?   I'd think the misunderstanding comes from also hearing that Kune Kunes are often known as / portrayed as micropigs.  You can see how they arrive at their incorrect conclusion.  An education campaign is required, Karen!
