Shetland ewes and ewe lambs for sale Aberdeenshire
« on: May 21, 2013, 08:55:22 am »
Due to an unusually high ratio of ewe lambs to boys 3:1 ratio!!  :yum: the last couple of lambings, we will have some ewe lambs, ewes or both together, for sale this year. Available together now, or in the autumn separately.

They are all Shetlands tho not registered, but all the lambs are by a lovely registered moorit Shetland ram.

Have never had to intervene in a single birth for any of my sheep in the 4 years I've been lambing, that's over 60 lambings! All are very hardy as they live on a pretty exposed hillside!

Ewe ages from 2 to 5, lambs mix of twins and singles, all different colours, black, moorit, multicoloured (mainly katmoget) and white.

Up to 5 ewes available and their approx 8 ewe lambs if sold together now, a few more when weaned in the autumn. ewes had single Heptavac jab pre lambing and also wormed with orange (super no resistance) wormer immediately post lambing.

Prices now would be £50 for the ewe and single lamb together, £70 for ewe and twin lambs. Once weaned in the autumn lambs would be £30 each, ewes £25.

We are near Aboyne, Aberdeenshire. PM me if interested, I can also send some photos by email on request. :sheep:

By request photos of the fawn katmoget ewe lamb, twin - brother is grey katmoget. Named Posy.

NB there is also a ewe lamb who is fawn with brown points (  some small white bits in the fawn) - one of the first born so hefty lass! - approx. 3 weeks old, named Tiramisu. Single.

Lovely lambs!

Really interested to see the varieties of katmoget. The lamb reminded me of our badger face welsh sheep, I just wonder whether there is a very distant link as both species have been around for many centuries

I am not very good on genetics, but if badger faces are northern short tailed types (are they?) then I wouldn't be surprised. I do like the badger look, it's so different and always gives them character and looks smart I think!

Ewe and 7 lambs now sold/reserved (even my vet has succumbed :-)
No more for sale at the moment BUT a few more Shetland (unreg but registered sire) ewe lambs (approx. 6) will be available at weaning for £30 each in Sept/Oct time so please contact me if you are interested. Good for eating, grass cutting or fleece (mix of colours).

Alternatively they will likely be entered into the Thainstone autumn rare breed sale but I would prefer to sell them privately earlier. NB Someone taking all 6 could take all of them for £150 (£25 each), smaller quantities £30 each.

All lambs have now been wormed and all will be double EID tagged before sale.

Looks like a gulmoget in the third pic, lamb on the left?  I don't know much about them, but same markings as Soay.  Does it have a pale belly?  Can't really see in pic.

I think from memory her belly is paler, so you may well be right. She and the other very fawn coloured one (the other is fawn with black, more a fawn katmoget, are going off at weaning for their fleeces to be used at new home :-))) that one you noticed is called Tiramisu :-))

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you regarding the potential link with the Welsh badger face sheep!!

these have been recorded in wales as far back as the 7th century and having done some research it's apparent that there is a Soay influence way back.

this lamb is only a few hours old, they like your are excellent mums

Aww thankyou!! Although I have to confess all the little boys were ringed so no ram candidates :excited: altho the ewes are unregistered we like to use a registered gentleman for them so we borrow one from a local lady.
