Normally all my lambs go for slaughter but this year a friend of mine is buying a ewe with two lambs off me. My question is...... Do I need to tag both lams with electronic tag sets as opposed to the single slaughter tags? One is a ewe lamb which they are planning on keeping and the other is a castrated tip who will be going for slaughter. If so does this mean that the little fella will also have to have one of their tags in when he goes to slaughter later in the year?

The lambs both need electronic tags to leave your holding.
 
Those tags follow them for life and the new owner doesn't have to add more.  The only exception would be if a tag fell out after sale.

Are you in England or Scotland? The rules are different in each country. The lambs need onlt slaughter tags when you sell them. These must be EID in scotland. If your friend decides to keep the lambs after july 2014 (no matter what sex or if they are castrated) they must be double tagged, one EID and one matching normal.
Importantly. If you use a single slaughter tag he can use any colour of his own double tags but if you use your double tags and the sheep loses one of them he must replace both tags with RED tags with his flock number on them!!!!

If your friend does not have any other sheep and these are their first, it may be helpful to just double tag both lambs anyway just so they do not have to go to all the hassle of just ordering one tag and then the pliers. Would just make life easier for them.   I double tag all my lambs regardless of sex and where their final destination might be.  My local livestock market also recommend double tagging all lambs as this aids the purchaser if they wish to keep the lambs themselves.
