Didn't move just bought the field behind me and now the one beside my house, saved a lot of hassle only thing against it was that it made the land more expensive as it became amenity land not quite sure why, something to do with the value that it added to the house I think.

Just under 50 miles south, as OH continues to work full-time in the city to afford it all. We could have gone further for more smallholding and tried to both give up our careers, but decided to stay in the "real" world for one of us. OH also loves his job, so wasn't prepared to give it all up and move to Shetland.

We came to mid Wales from Birmingham where I was working at the time (I'm from London originally), and OH was in Banbury.

Had originally been looking in Shropshire but couldn't afford it, looked in Carmarthenshire but the commute was too bad and eventually ended up just south of Newtown, Powys. Train from local village goes direct to Birmingham!!

Came from London to Llanarth in west wales in 1977 , have been in and around the area since . Had my own land for 10 years now , about 12 miles from the place we moved to in '77 .

about 900 km from Cambridge to La Creuse in France. property and land was so cheap that we have not worked since the move  :innocent: . It takes me about just a few hours to get a cheap flight from Limoges to Stansted and see family so distance is not a problem.

Just over 400 miles from Carmarthenshire to where we are now in Kilbarchan, Scotland & just about to do the return journey with more than twice the livestock we originally had, back to our (trashed! those who know, know what I mean  :furious: ) house & garden  :tired:
Luckily, we have some fab friends down there who are "fostering" half of our KKs - just need to get tomorrow over with  :'(

We moved from Switzerland to the UK but less distance than some of you who've gone from end of the UK to the other. Actually we were led more by the usual house hunting needs - to be commuting distance to London for husband. We were certainly not looking for land. That just happened - which is why accidental smallholding is so appropriate.
